Project:  Shadow Drawings

Materials Needed:

  • Drawing paper
  • Color Swell markers, colored pencils and/or crayons
  • Everyday objects (toys, leaves, etc.)
  • Flashlight
  • Safety mat: newspaper or cloth (recommended)

Instructions:

  • Step 1: Place objects with interesting shapes (like toys or leaves) under a piece of paper.
  • Step 2: Shine a flashlight from above to cast shadows onto (and through) the paper.
  • Step 3: Trace around the shadows to create unique artworks.

Tips for Success:

  • Supervision: Depending on the age group, adult supervision may be needed, especially when using scissors, glue, or any potentially messy materials.
  • Encouragement: Encourage creativity and experimentation. Art projects are a great opportunity for kids to explore their imagination.
  • Display: Once completed, display the artwork proudly! It boosts children's confidence and encourages further creativity.
